Laugh it Off at Obz Festival
Howzit, we’re gearing up for Obz Fest this weekend. Check out the presser below. If you want to find us we’ll be on the Village Green, right next to the bar…
The Festival 2008
The biggest street festival in South Africa is growing, developing into a dynamic creative celebration that the entire city can be proud of. Not content with exploring the artistic attitudes and alternative cultural lifestyles that Observatory represents, OBZfestival 2008 reaches out to reflect the incredible diversity and tremendous musical talents of Cape Town and beyond.
A world class outdoor festival on your doorstep in the shadow of the mountain, professionally run- the OBZfestival has come of age. With comparisons to other world famous street festivals it will be the kick start to Cape Town’s summer.
Bands and DJ’s over three days with three stages across all genres from rock, electronica, pop, hip hop ska and acoustic to soul, it promises a local musical smorgasbord that will tempt even the most discerning of palates. And that is just the music; the OBZfestival is about so much more
All festival weekend the streets will be alive with all the legendary OBS bars and restaurants plying their wares on the street while street performers and DJ’s bring a touch of Mardi Gras to the ‘burbs The popular OBZ Market will be located on the field with the entrance on the corner of Station and Lower Main Roads.
On Friday OBZ Loud will kick off with an opening night headline grabbing, high octane gig with a host of Cape Town’s (South Africa’s) home grown- now internationally acclaimed talent for less than the price of a standard club gig.
Saturday sees the festival literally swing into action with a market, street performers, arts and crafts, a unique “sugar free” and safe (but with plenty of fun) OBZ Kids zone and a live stage that has a full program from mid day to midnight. The legendary OBZ Live playing host to the up and coming bands that made the OBZfestival so famous and OBZ Loud for the established bands that have paid their dues. Throughout Saturday and Sunday OBZ Acoustic will offer an escape from the crowds with Bedouin tents, bean bags and subtle grooves.
On Sunday, the festival continues on with our OBZ Film and OBZ Lazy Sunday designed for the more easygoing who appreciate a more laid back vibe and some relaxed atmosphere, while listening to array of urbane styles ranging from jazz, soul, trip hop, gospel, acoustic and many other weird and wonderful forms of eclectic collaborations.
Listening to the need for a little control, comfort and of course the need for some suitable tipple while staying on the right side of the law, for a small fee a section of the festival, incorporating the main OBZ Loud stage, OBZ Live and OBZ Lazy Sunday will be in the Village Green designated area offering professionally run bars, ATMs, exquisite deli style catering, more toilets and a secure environment.
Why travel miles when you can see Cape Town’s best in your Backyard?
